What a meetup is like
Our meetups are casual and social. Players sit down for friendly over-the-board games, talk through positions, and meet other people who enjoy chess. There are no rounds or brackets — you play as many or as few games as you like.
Drop in for a single game or stay for the whole session. We sometimes offer free coaching and game tips for players who want them.
How you find opponents
Color-coded name tags
Players wear color-coded name tags that show roughly how experienced they are, so it's easy to spot someone at a similar level for a game.
Just ask for a game
Meetups are built for meeting new players. Coming alone is completely normal — grab a seat and someone will be glad to play.
RSVP on Chess67
Meetups are free, but we ask you to register on Chess67 so we know how many boards and seats to set out.

Meetups take place at RISE Coffee & Tea in Roswell, Georgia — convenient for players from Alpharetta, East Cobb, and across North Fulton.
Meetups vs. tournaments
Meetups are free and relaxed — no clocks required, no rating needed, no pressure. Roswell Chess also runs occasional tournaments with paired rounds, time controls, and an entry fee. You never need to play in a tournament to come to a meetup.

- No. Community meetups are free. Tournaments and some special events may have a registration fee, which is always shown on the event's Chess67 page.
- Do I need a chess rating?
- No. Meetups are open to everyone, whether you've never played over the board or you're a rated competitor.
